Can I search by company name or registration number?
Yes. Search current legal names, DBAs and previous names through company search. If you know the jurisdiction and registration number, use a direct entity lookup to retrieve that company’s record.
How much does the API cost?
Each returned search result uses one credit ($0.01). A page returning 25 results costs $0.25 before free credits. A direct entity lookup uses one credit, and searches with no results are free. New accounts start with 1,000 free credits. View pricing.
Where does the data come from?
GovFiles collects business registrations directly from state registries, including Secretary of State offices. The API searches our maintained dataset. Each company record includes source identifiers and a data date.
Are inactive businesses and historical filings included?
Yes. The dataset includes active and inactive registrations, including dissolved, revoked, withdrawn and merged entities.
How is bulk data delivered?

Can I search by a person’s name instead?
