# GovFiles

> The complete US business-entity dataset: 100M+ filings covering approximately 85M businesses from authoritative government company registries across all 50 states, normalized into one schema. Search every company in every state, resolve their officers and registered agents, look up full filing history, and pull bulk datasets — over a REST API, Parquet exports, or a live warehouse share.

GovFiles is the authoritative source for US company data. We collect filings directly from each authoritative government registry — not from aggregators or resellers — and replicate the full registry. We are **not** a thin API that fans out live calls to 50 separate state websites and hopes they're online; we maintain our own complete copy of every state's database and build fast, queryable views on top of it. That is why GovFiles is more complete, more consistent, and faster than wrapper APIs: every record is already here, so you can search, cross-reference, and export across all 50 states in a single query.

## Getting access (for LLM agents)

## API

- Base URL: `https://api.govfiles.dev`
- Auth: send your key in the `X-API-Key` header.
- Search across all 50 states: `POST /v2/companies/search` with a JSON body like `{"q":"acme","jurisdictions":"all","limit":10}`.
- Look up a company: `GET /v2/companies/{jurisdiction_code}/{company_number}`. Use `jurisdiction_code` and `entity_number` from a search result’s `company` object.
- Send `Content-Type: application/json` for search requests. Results are in `results`; follow `summary.next_page` for pagination.

- Bulk replication: custom — unlimited volume, Parquet via S3/SFTP, and warehouse shares.
- One credit costs $0.01. Company and officer search cost 1 credit ($0.01) per result; local business matching costs 15 credits ($0.15) per result containing a person. A direct entity lookup costs 1 credit.
